A Day in the Marine Reserve

Cayos Cochinos is a protected cluster of two small islands and thirteen cayes about 30 minutes offshore from La Ceiba by boat. The reserve protects one of the healthiest coral reef systems in Honduras, along with the endemic pink boa found only on Cayo Menor. The day starts with an early boat departure from La Ceiba, followed by a short hike on Cayo Menor, snorkeling over the reef, and lunch in the Garifuna village of Chachahuate before heading back in the afternoon.

Good to Know

Yes, the hike is short and easy, and snorkeling is optional for those who prefer to stay on the beach.

A small marine park entrance fee applies and is collected on-site; your guide handles the paperwork.

Swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, a towel, and cash for the park entrance fee.
